Dr. John S. TerKeurst, a Mountain Home urologist, attended the recent 2009 Rodney Appell Memorial Update in Gynecologic Urology, co-sponsored by Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine of Chicago, and Vanguard Urologic Research Foundation of Houston, Texas. The three-day conference focused on the latest advances in evaluating and treating women with urogenital tract problems.
The annual educational event was renamed this year in memory of the late Rodney Appell, M. D., a surgeon, teacher, author, and recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology. Dr. Appell died at his home in Houston early in 2009.
Dr. TerKeurst said the updates most important for his practice concerned incontinence, overactive bladder, urinary tract infections, vaginal prolapse and reconstruction. During two days of the update, those attending heard about the latest innovations in their fields, risks and benefits involved for patients, and discussed the daily topics. One day was devoted primarily to treatments for incontinence. In addition, video sessions allowed attendees to view actual procedures and techniques related to the topics discussed.
A physician and surgeon in Mountain Home since 1989, Dr. TerKeurst is board certified by the American Board of Urology, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is on the active staff of Baxter Regional Medical Center. TerKeurst Urology Clinic, at 124 Hwy. 201 North in Mountain Home treats males and females of all ages, offering preventive exams and urological procedures in the office.
